Greetings to everyone.

I have often been told that DeathMatch arena maps are not usually popular with Quake 1/"Classic" Quake when compared to the prominence of Single Player/Co-op maps. It puzzles me to encounter this sentiment. . . .

DeathMatch environments, with human opponents, create a psychological intensity attempting to battle an opponent who is capable of intelligence and variable dynamic skills. A person, a human, is almost always capable of doing the unexpected in many forms, very much like a wildcard character in an equation. I truly love to face human opponents of any skill level due to the clashing of play-style(s) we might use to gain the upper-hand over each other before securing frags. I especially love duels due to the combative relationship my opponent and I consent to as we showcase the flame of our fighting spirits.

It has been a long time since I've played seriously Single Player in Quake 1. I don't have the same passion for that mode I did in the past. My friends who love Single Player/Co-op tell me that it is a different view into the psyche of the author(s) of the Single Player map according to how enemy positioning is done, in particular. To me, that is true, but yet I feel less motivated to hunt down and play Single Player maps, or even the default Quake maps in that mode. If I do play Single Player maps, it's just a short time enjoyed when compared to the longer times I lose track of minutes playing DeathMatch mode, sampling the author'(s) mindset with how he/she pits individuals against each other in a winner-take-all set of scenarios to explore.

This is just my set opinions on the matter. I'm not claiming to be right absolutely, as this game, Quake 1, was clearly designed to provide options for both fun possibilities for DeathMatch and Single Player/Co-op modes.

Now you know how I feel with my expressed opinions. What about you? What are your preferences and why do you endorse the game mode that you favor?
